I took this photo of a Common Bronzewing Pigeon at Belgrave Birdsland, in Belgrave (Victoria, Australia). At first I didn't know what type (or name) of this bird was, however from my conversations via social media, I discovered its true name. (I love when that happens!)

Suellen H. > Kelvin Schultz
Mark T. > great photo! How do you get the colours so bright on the wing and background dark?
John Weeks > I walking down the back track of the reserve which is quite dense with trees. I was fortunate to have the pigeon on a tree bough with the darkness of the trees in the background, and the light of the sun reflecting off the 'plumage' of the bird. I was very pleased with the position, Mark.
Mark T. > That's awesome, well done on recognising the perfect shot and getting it right.
Kirsten L. > Amazing photo. Beautiful bird.
Ian M. > Beautiful plumage! 🤣
Ian M. > On closer inspection, I see nails!
Annette S. > It’s a beautiful bird. Great shot. You need the sun shining on it to bring out the colour. Otherwise it looks pretty ordinary. Well done.
Annette S. > One of my trials. They are pretty stunning birds when the light is right.
Shai S. > Make the most interesting call (check out the 2nd recording) https://www.xeno-canto.org/species/Phaps-chalcoptera Common Bronzewing (Phaps chalcoptera) :: xeno-canto
Bec A. > Great shot!
Geoff S. > And a little history. Birdsland has nothing to do with birds. A local Land owner named Bird gifted the land to the public to be used as a reserve.
John Weeks > Thanks for that interesting piece of history, Geoff.
