Fears about AI span immediate societal impacts to speculative long-term existential risks. These concerns are widely discussed by the public, experts, policymakers, and AI researchers themselves. Public sentiment often leans toward caution: a 2025 Pew survey across 25 countries found a median of 34% of adults more concerned than excited about AI in daily life, with higher concern among older adults, women, and less-educated groups.
